Meet Cherrell Reeves, Clinical Intern from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., the only liberal arts university for the Deaf in the world, played an instrumental role in serving the Deaf community throughout 2025. Her dedication and collaborative work with Dr. Scruggs allowed us to extend our reach, impact more families, and create meaningful learning experiences
2025 Community Impact Highlights
Deaf Camp Day – Brentwood, TN

On June 11, 2025, we hosted an interactive and educational session designed to engage Deaf and Hard of Hearing children ages 6–18, using characters from Inside Out 2 as a fun and relatable way to explore emotions, emotional regulation, and self-expression. We are grateful to Brentwood Baptist Deaf Church for allowing us to be a part of their Deaf Camp. This youth-centered discussion created a safe, inclusive space for learning, connection, and meaningful dialogue within the D/HH community.
Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Training

September 15–19, 2025, The Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) Training serving 18 Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and ASL Fluent participants and 3 ASL Fluent mentors, focused on equipping attendees with practical, trauma-informed strategies to build trust, strengthen relationships, and support emotional well-being within the D/HH community.
Statewide Partnerships Advancing Deaf Mental Health
In partnership with the Tennessee Council for the Deaf, DeafBlind, and Hard of Hearing (TCDDBHH), we co-hosted events across Tennessee to collect critical data on mental health in the Deaf community while providing accessible, culturally responsive mental health education and workshops.
Bridges CommunityFest – Nashville, TN

On September 20, 2025, Bridges CommunityFest brought together over 100 participants for a vibrant gathering focused on promoting community engagement, connection, and awareness, strengthening relationships and visibility within the community.
BridgesWest Memphis Mental Health Group

On October 9, 2025, we hosted a Memphis Mental Health Group session with approximately 20 participants, providing a supportive and interactive space for discussion, learning, and connection around mental health topics within the community.
Jackson Center for Independent Living Mental Health Group

On October 10, 2025, we hosted a Mental Health Group in Jackson, TN, welcoming approximately 20 participants for an interactive and supportive session focused on mental health awareness, community connection, and strategies to promote well-being.
Connecting Communities in Chattanooga

On October 23, 2025, we traveled to Partnership For Families, Children and Adults of Chattanooga we hosted a mental health workshop. The session brought together approximately 14 participants for meaningful discussion and hands-on activities focused on Deaf services, community connection, and shared learning.

Workshops & Learning Highlights
Because of your support, we were able to host a variety of workshops and learning experiences in 2025 that empowered individuals, families, and professionals in the Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and Hearing communities. These included:
Rooted & Resilience Workshops (Parenting, Marriage, and Mental Health Series)
Lunch & Learn Sessions (Building Safety Through Honest Conversations, The Power of Pause, Reignite the Spark)
Dinner Table Syndrome Discussions (Facilitating dialogue around mental health and community connection)
Thanks to your generosity, these sessions created safe spaces for learning, growth, and meaningful dialogue, helping participants build stronger relationships, resilience, and community connection.
The Bigger Picture
Throughout 2025, Dr. Angela Scruggs and Deaf Wellspring Center reached hundreds of individuals across Tennessee and beyond, providing meaningful programs and experiences that empowered families, youth, and professionals. Our work included:
Trauma-informed education (TBRI) to equip caregivers, mentors, and professionals with practical strategies for building trust, resilience, and healthy relationships.
Mental health workshops and support groups, including Dinner Table Syndrome discussions and Lunch & Learn sessions, creating safe spaces for dialogue, learning, and emotional support.
Parenting, marriage, and relationship enrichment workshops, such as the Rooted & Resilience series and The Power of Pause sessions, offering practical tools to strengthen family and community connections.
Youth-centered emotional learning, including interactive programs like Deaf Camp Day and Inside Out 2 activities, helping children explore emotions, self-expression, and social skills.
Inclusive spaces for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, DeafBlind, and Hearing communities to connect, learn, and grow together through both in-person and online programs.
This work continues to plant seeds of understanding, healing, and empowerment one conversation, one workshop, and one family at a time reflecting our ongoing commitment to building stronger, more connected communities.
Looking Ahead to 2026
We’re excited to continue our work in 2026! Our plans include visiting BridgesEAST in Johnson City and the Knoxville Center of the Deaf, expanding access to workshops, learning opportunities, and community engagement for families, youth, and professionals across Tennessee.
We are honored to share that Dr. Angela Scruggs will be presenting nationally in 2026. She will present three separate workshops at the Christian Interpreters Conference held in Oklahoma from July 9-11, 2026, and has had her proposal, Hands, Hearts, and Healing: Applying TBRI® Principles in the Deaf Community, accepted as a 3-hour pre-conference session at the 2026 ADARA Conference, held in Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
